Devastating Monsoon Rains Batter Nepal, Leaving at Least 20 Dead

Heavy downpours have triggered deadly landslides and flash floods in Nepal over the past two days, resulting in at least 20 fatalities, Reuters reported yesterday.

In Lamjung district, landslides swept away three houses overnight, killing four people, including two children. Flooding in Morang district has claimed four lives since Tuesday. Additionally, three people died in separate landslide incidents in the western Kaski region and eastern Okhaldhunga.

Nepal routinely experiences severe monsoon weather from June to September, leading to devastating natural disasters that claim hundreds of lives annually. Authorities are currently working to rescue and assist affected communities as the harsh conditions persist across the mountainous country.
