China making efforts to prevent Uyghurs from fasting through feasts, patrols
Chinese authorities in Xinjiang are using festivals and surveillance to prevent Uyghur Muslims from fasting, praying and observing Ramadan, RFA reported in an article.
They organized arts events, outdoor feasts, and distributed free food, while also holding communal meetings to discourage fasting and praying, the source mentioned.
It adds that the Police conducted patrols and home inspections to ensure residents were not fasting, and banned gatherings on the streets.
Beijing has been trying to restrict and discourage Uyghurs from observing holy Ramadan and practicing Islam in general under the pretext of fighting religious extremism.
