Mine blasts kill, injure 560 across Afghanistan in 2023

In 2023, 560 individuals lost their lives or were injured in mine explosions across Afghanistan, Khaama Press reported citing Afghan officials.

It further detailed 174 individuals, including women and children, lost their lives due to mine explosions and unexploded ordnance.

According to officials, 90 square kilometers of land in 119 districts have been cleared of mine and unexploded ordnance threats in the past year.

Despite the progress, Afghan officials maintain the threat of mines still exists in Afghanistan and have called on the international community to fulfill its responsibilities regarding mine clearance, expressing hope for a mine-free Afghanistan in the future.
