Uyghur organization pulls out from Canada’s commission on election meddling

Canada’s Uyghur community group has pulled out of a commission investigating allegations of foreign interference in the country’s elections due to concerns about some politicians with alleged sympathies to China being given influence in the review body.

The organization, known as URAP, stated that these politicians’ public comments are too closely aligned with the Chinese Communist Party, citing comments such as “Canada is not in a position to criticize China because of treatment towards its indigenous First Nations”, or opposing efforts to declare what is happening in Xinjiang as “genocide”.

Uyghur Muslims have been persistently been subjected to discrimination and mistreatment as an ethnic minority in China, and have been used as forced labor in many so-called vocational training camps by the Chinese Communist Party.
