Blue Mosque reopens in Mazar-i-Sharif, Afghanistan

Blue Mosque in Mazar-i-Sharif, capital of Afghanistan’s Balkh province, reopened on Saturday after a five-month shutdown due to the impact of the coronavirus outbreak.

The Blue Mosque is located in the center of Mazar-i-Sharif. It is known for its special architecture and beautiful tile-work.

Classified a pandemic by the World Health Organization, the new virus, a respiratory disease known as COVID-19, emerged in the central Chinese city of Wuhan in Hubei Province late last year.

It has infected more than 13 million people and killed over 572,000 globally.

Afghanistan has reported more than 34,000 positive cases and 1,012 deaths from the disease so far.
