Four paramilitary soldiers have been killed when Taliban militants opened fire on a patrol in Pakistan’s western city of Quetta, police say.

Senior Superintendent of Police for Quetta, Naseebullah Khan, said the Frontier Corps troopers were patrolling in the residential neighborhood of Langoabad when they came under fire in an ambush by militants riding on motorcycles on Wednesday.

“The four men were shot in the head,” Khan said, noting that handguns were used in the assault.

The outlawed militant group Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), also known as Pakistani Taliban, claimed responsibility for the attack.

The attack is the second claimed by the militant group this month.

On February 3, at least 11 soldiers, including an army officer, lost their lives and 13 others sustained injuries when an assailant detonated his explosive vest in the northern district of Swat.
