Mourning processions were held and religious gatherings were held in all big or small cities in Islamic and non0Islami countries to pay homage to the great sacrifice rendered by Imam Hussain, peace be upon him, and his companions in Karbala.

The day marks the culmination of a 40-day mourning period after the 10th of Muharram, the martyrdom date of Imam Hussain, peace be upon them, and his 72 faithful companions on 680 A.D.

The religious scholars in their speeches on the occasion highlighted the teachings of Imam Hussain, peace be upon him, and various aspects of Karbala tragedy.
