Bahraini activist summoned by Public Prosecution

Bahrain’s Public Prosecution has summoned the Deputy-Chairman of the European-Bahraini Organisation for Human Rights (EBOHR), Fatima al-Halwaji.

The activist, who was prevented from leaving the country earlier this month, was ordered to appear for questioning on Monday without any further explanation concerning the allegations against her.

Al-Halwaji is among a handful of rights and political activists to be banned from traveling and interrogated since the start of the 36th session of the UN Human Rights Council in Geneva.

The measures have been described as an attempt to curtail the activities of activists and restrict their freedom of movement.
