UN Envoy Expresses Concern Over Deadly Attack on Civilians in Yemen

The Hans Grundberg has expressed deep concern over an attack targeting civilians during an iftar gathering in Hiran District in northwestern Yemen.
In a statement, Grundberg said preliminary reports indicate that at least eight civilians were killed and dozens injured, including children, when a group of residents was struck while breaking their fast during the holy month of Ramadan.
The UN envoy extended his condolences to the victims’ families and stressed that the protection of civilians must remain a priority at all times under international humanitarian law. He also underscored the need to hold those responsible for the attack accountable.
The incident comes amid Yemen’s ongoing conflict, which began in 2015 and has been marked by repeated violations affecting civilians. The international community has consistently called on all parties to respect international humanitarian law and avoid targeting residential areas and civilian gatherings.
