Israeli Airstrike Kills Yemen’s Houthi Prime Minister and Several Senior Officials
…………….
The Independent reported that Yemen’s Houthi prime minister, Ahmad Ghaleb al-Rhawi, was killed in an Israeli airstrike targeting senior Houthi leaders. The Houthi-run news agency confirmed the deaths of several ministers, including the foreign minister and officials from justice, youth, sports, social affairs, and labor ministries.
Additionally, some ministers sustained serious injuries, according to the office of Houthi leader Mahdi al-Mashat. Israel stated that the strike targeted key figures such as the Houthi chief of staff and defense minister, holding them responsible for military actions against Israel.
An Israeli Defense Forces spokesperson described the operation as a swift, intelligence-led strike on a compound in the Sanaa region where top Houthi officials were gathered. Rahwi, who was prime minister for about a year, was seen largely as a ceremonial figure, with his deputy, Mohamed Moftah, now assigned to assume his duties.
Since the Gaza conflict began in October 2023, the Houthis have launched attacks on Israeli vessels and missile strikes, prompting Israeli retaliatory airstrikes on Houthi-controlled areas. Mahdi al-Mashat reaffirmed the group’s support for Gaza and its commitment to strengthening its military capabilities.
