Children Participate in Ramadan Quran Competition in North Carolina

A Quran competition for children took place in Charlotte, North Carolina, celebrating the holy month of Ramadan, Iqna reported. The event saw 140 participants, aged 4 to 60, showcasing their memorization and recitation skills. Amani Kerrouchi, 11, who tied for second in her age group, expressed her motivation to participate, highlighting the Quran’s significance in daily life.

Participants prepared for the competition by memorizing various sections of the Quran, with younger children learning about one page and older groups up to ten pages. The event, now in its fourth year, aims to honor the month when the Quran was revealed to Prophet Muhammad (PBUH).
Dania Kanawati, an organizer, noted the challenges faced by children raised in English-speaking households, emphasizing the importance of proper recitation techniques. The ceremony also recognized 9-year-old Maryam Bianouni, a joint first-place winner who has a rare condition affecting her growth and speech, showcasing the competition’s inclusive spirit.
