Dearborn Non-Profit Tackles Food Waste During Ramadan

The Helping Handzzz Foundation, a Dearborn-based non-profit, is addressing food waste and fostering community during Ramadan, WXYZ.com reported. Volunteers collect untouched meals and distribute them to individuals experiencing homelessness.
The foundation, led by Nadine Daoud, provides nearly 400 meals weekly. They operate two missions: pre-iftar, which delivers meals to families in need, and post-iftar, which collects leftovers after sunset.
Volunteers gather untouched meals six nights a week, ensuring recipients receive healthy options, including protein, vegetables, rice, and drinks. Nadine’s initiative began in 2017 when she noticed food waste during Iftar at her grandmother’s home.
The foundation continues its efforts beyond Ramadan, focusing on major holidays like Thanksgiving and Eid to collect and distribute leftover food. By 11:30 PM, the team wraps up another successful night of service.
