Jefferson Parish Schools Address Ramadan Accommodation Concerns

Jefferson Parish Public Schools faced criticism over the treatment of fasting Muslim students during Ramadan, WWL TV reported.

Community advocate Rana Ottallah reported that a parent requested their child be allowed to sit in the library during lunch, but the school district did not respond. At Schneckenburger Elementary, fasting students were reportedly forced to remain in the cafeteria. After raising concerns on social media, the school announced that fasting students could sit in a separate office. The district stated they found no evidence of mistreatment but acknowledged the need for better accommodations for the growing Muslim community.
