US Diplomats Protest USAID Shutdown, Warn of Global Risks

Hundreds of U.S. diplomats from the State Department and USAID have expressed deep concerns over the recent decision to disband USAID, warning that it could undermine U.S. security and global leadership, Khaama Press reported. In a letter to Secretary of State Marco Rubio, over 700 diplomats highlighted the potential power vacuum this move creates, which could be exploited by adversaries like China and Russia.
The diplomats emphasized that suspending foreign aid, including vital humanitarian assistance, poses risks not only to U.S. personnel abroad but also to millions who rely on this support. They argued that foreign assistance is a strategic tool for stabilizing vulnerable regions and advancing U.S. interests.
The budget cuts have led to widespread layoffs within USAID, impacting essential programs such as healthcare for women in conflict zones. As legal challenges mount against the agency’s dissolution, diplomats warn that the long-term consequences could destabilize regions dependent on U.S. support, ultimately threatening global security.
