Winter Storm Warnings Affect 70 Million in the U.S.
A significant winter storm is affecting over 70 million people across the United States, bringing heavy snow and dangerously cold temperatures, Arab News reported. Winter storm warnings are in place from the Northern Plains to the East Coast, with forecasts predicting up to 6 inches of snow in the Mid-Atlantic and as much as 10 inches in parts of New England.
Hazardous road conditions are expected, especially along major highways, as temperatures drop to single digits and wind chills reach as low as -40°F. Public transportation is being encouraged in urban areas to facilitate snow removal efforts.
In the South, approximately 30 million residents are experiencing a wintry mix of snow, sleet, and freezing rain, impacting regions from Texas to northern Florida. Emergency declarations have been issued in several states to prepare for the severe weather, which is the result of a polar vortex disruption, leading to some of the coldest temperatures in years.
