Bomb Cyclone Devastates Northwest U.S., Causing 2 Deaths and Major Power Outages
A severe “bomb cyclone” has swept through the Northwest U.S., leading to at least two deaths and knocking out power to about 600,000 homes, Arab News reported today.
The storm, which began on Tuesday, unleashed hurricane-force winds and heavy rainfall, resulting in widespread damage, closed schools, and downed trees. The Weather Prediction Center has issued warnings for excessive rainfall and high winds, predicting up to 16 inches of rain in northern California.
In Washington state, a woman was killed when a tree fell on a homeless encampment, while another fatality occurred when a tree struck a home in Bellevue. Residents reported significant storm damage, with fallen trees blocking roads and driveways. Travel has been severely impacted, with road closures and hazardous conditions across multiple states. Authorities have urged residents to stay indoors and avoid travel as the storm continues to pose risks.
