US-based Islamic Center Hosts Salaam Peace Festival This Sunday

The Islamic Center of East Lansing in Michigan, U.S., is set to hold its third annual Salaam Peace Festival this Sunday, promoting peace and understanding of Islamic culture, WKAR revealed yesterday.

Inspired by the Arabic word for peace, the festival will feature a variety of kid-friendly activities, including face painting, inflatables, calligraphy, and henna art.

Food vendors will offer diverse cuisines from countries such as Afghanistan, Lebanon, India, Somalia, Iraq, and the Mediterranean. Organizer Areesha Shah emphasized the festival’s role in fostering community connections and spreading the message of peace.

Attendees will also have the opportunity to tour the center and learn more about Islam. The event is free, with half of vendor proceeds supporting charity efforts for Gaza. The festival runs from 2:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m., and while registration is encouraged on the center’s website, walk-ins are welcome.
