DUP MP Sammy Wilson Referred to Parliamentary Standards Over Islamophobic Remarks
—————————————–
A member of the British parliament, Sammy Wilson of the Democratic Unionist Party (DUP), has been formally referred to the Parliamentary Commissioner for Standards following his comments on 24 November 2025, deemed anti‑Islamic.
According to reports viewed by Shia Waves Agency, the referral was made by fellow MP Ayoub Khan, a member of an independent coalition, with the aim of assessing whether Wilson’s remarks violated the rules of conduct and dignity expected in the chamber.
In the debate over banning fans of Israeli club Maccabi Tel Aviv F.C. from attending matches, Wilson described Muslims as “thugs” (or “hooligans”), language critics have called inflammatory and divisive.
If the Commissioner confirms a breach, Wilson could face administrative or political penalties.
This development underscores continuing concerns about anti‑Muslim sentiment in UK political discourse, and reinforces efforts — such as the government’s earlier pledge to combat anti‑Muslim hatred — to hold public officials accountable.
