Belfast Mosque Targeted in Bomb Attack; Community Responds with Resilience

A suspected terrorist attack targeted the Belfast Islamic Centre in the UK on Friday night, when an explosive device was thrown through a window during evening prayers. The explosion caused panic among worshippers, shattering glass and triggering mass evacuation, though no injuries were reported.

British police quickly launched an investigation and arrested a 34-year-old man under anti-terrorism laws. Initial findings confirmed the device was functional and intentionally designed to cause serious harm, suggesting the attack was a deliberate hate crime against the Muslim community.

The incident has heightened concerns about rising Islamophobia in Europe, particularly attacks on places of worship. Despite the trauma, the Belfast Muslim community reopened the mosque the very next morning, resuming prayers as a show of faith and unity.

Community leaders condemned the attack but emphasized resilience and peace, vowing not to let hate undermine Belfast’s long-standing values of coexistence and religious tolerance.
