Newly Elected Reform UK Councillors Under Fire for Islamophobic Social Media Posts

Up to a dozen newly elected Reform UK councillors are facing scrutiny for sharing Islamophobic and far-right content on social media, The Guardian reported Saturday. This follows the party’s significant gains in last week’s local elections, where it won 677 of over 1,600 seats nationwide.

Several Reform UK councillors from three county councils have shared posts linked to Britain First, a far-right group known for anti-Islam views.

The revelations come amid increased examination by counter-extremism group Hope Not Hate, whose director Georgie Laming criticized Reform UK’s vetting procedures as inadequate despite party leader Nigel Farage’s claims of thorough candidate screening.

Laming added that Reform UK has yet to drop any candidates implicated in these posts. The group previously exposed Reform candidates’ Islamophobic content and support for extremist figures like Tommy Robinson.
