UK hosts first major international summit to address illegal migration

The UK recently hosted its first major international summit aimed at tackling illegal migration, gathering representatives from over 40 countries, including the US, France, and Vietnam, to discuss human trafficking, Amu TV reported. Held on March 31, the meeting focused on enhancing global collaboration to combat illegal migration and the networks that profit from it.

Entitled “Organized Migration Crimes,” the summit sought to identify new strategies to prevent unauthorized refugee entry into the UK. Migration remains a critical concern for UK voters, and Prime Minister Keir Starmer is actively pursuing solutions to reduce illegal migration.

Discussions covered various aspects of the human trafficking industry, including the supply chain of small boats transporting migrants from France to the UK, as well as the role of tech companies in promoting illegal migration routes via social media platforms. Starmer pointed out that this “wicked trade” exploits institutional gaps, creates tensions between nations, and takes advantage of the political deadlock surrounding migration issues.

Previously, France and the UK had agreed to enhance police cooperation across the English Channel to combat illegal migration, aiming to bolster border controls and decrease the number of migrants crossing the channel.

The summit underscored the necessity for stronger international collaboration in addressing human trafficking and illegal migration. Through coordinated efforts, the UK hopes to tackle the complex challenges posed by organized migration crimes and mitigate their impact on vulnerable communities.
