UK Parliament Committee Calls for Recognition of Palestine
The UK Parliament’s International Development Committee has urged the government to recognize a Palestinian state, outlining necessary conditions and a timeline for action, Anadolu Agency reported.
In a report addressing the humanitarian situation in the Gaza Strip and the West Bank, the committee criticized Israel’s military response to Hamas’ attacks on October 7, 2023, which resulted in significant civilian casualties and damage to infrastructure.
The report highlights concerns over potential violations of international humanitarian law, suggesting that Israel’s actions may constitute grave breaches, including accusations of genocide. It emphasizes the need for 500 aid trucks daily to meet Gaza’s humanitarian needs, yet only an average of 25 are currently delivered.
Additionally, the report notes that between October 7, 2023, and October 31, 2024, Israel demolished 1,800 Palestinian structures and killed 736 individuals. The committee has called on the UK government to ensure accountability for any violations of international humanitarian law committed by Israel.
