Following recent events in Middle East, UN Chief voices concerns over growing Islamophobia worldwide
In wake of the recent events in the Middle East, UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres expressed concern over the growing Islamophobia in the world.
Guterres tweeted on Tuesday saying that “I am deeply concerned about the growing intolerance of Islamophobia and that the scenes of suffering in the Middle East are heartbreaking.”
He pointed to the need to stop hate speech and provocative actions, emphasizing the need to preserve common humanity.
Guterres’s statement is a reflection of the growing concern about Islamophobia around the world; as incidents of Islamophobia have increased significantly in recent years, and they have been linked to a number of factors.
Guterres’s statement comes at a time when it has become important to raise awareness of the problem, to educate people about Islam, and to promote tolerance and understanding, as well as to hold those responsible for acts of Islamophobia accountable.
