Mosque in France recieves message of threat amid increase in hate speech

In a document, the MP for the French party “Nouveau Parti Socialiste” Sabrine Safieddine revealed on her account on the social media platform “X” (Twitter formerly) that the mosque in her electoral district received a threatening message targeting Muslims.

Against the backdrop of tension and escalation of racist and xenophobic acts in France, the mosque in Nanterre, France, received a racist threat.

The document stated, “We will burn your Quranic schools, mosques, shops, neighborhoods, and cities randomly, and we will expel you from France.”

The message also stated, “If your Islamic brothers of all kinds, or your national organizations, in one way or another, attack our schools, colleges, high schools, universities, public places, churches, synagogues, or on our institutions and citizens or on a wider scale to the sacred symbols of the French Republic, one and indivisible, then the hellfire will fall on you and we will burn your Quranic schools randomly, and your mosques, businesses, neighborhoods, and cities, and we will expel you from France until the last moment.”

The French MP warned, saying, “Islamophobia is on the rise in recent weeks and in the midst of the total silence of political leaders,” wondering if French Interior Minister Gerald Darmanin would condemn this threatening message and wrote, “Mr. Gerald Darmanin, do you condemn and what do you intend to do?”

This threatening message was met with strong condemnation by a few MPs who are still concerned about the security of citizens, regardless of their religious affiliation, and others surprisingly ignored it.

For its part, the French Council for Islamic Religion condemned the threatening message addressed to the Nanterre mosque, saying: “The Council strongly condemns the threatening message targeting Muslims in France, which was received by the Nanterre mosque,” stressing that “this type of message is the result of hate speech that was made by those who link French Muslims to potential terrorists.”
