10th of Rabi al-Thani marks martyrdom anniversary of great lady of Ahlul-Bayt, Fatima al-Masoomah, peace be upon her

Sayyida Fatimah al-Masoomah, peace be upon her, was martyred on the 10th of Rabi al-Thani, 201 A.H. at the age of 28.

In addition to being the daughter, sister and aunt of the immaculate Imams, she was Alemah (knowledgeable) and Muhadithah (narrator of hadith). Al-Masoomah is one of the respected figures among Shiites, and her shrine in the holy city of Qom receives millions of pilgrims every year.

Let’s see the report together:

Sayyida Fatima al-Masoomah, peace be upon her, was born 25 years after the birth of Imam Reza, peace be upon him. Her date of birth has been disputed, but according to a narration, it occurred on the first of Dhu al-Qa’da 173 Hijri.

The father of al-Masoomah was Imam Musa bin Jafar (peace be upon them) and his mother was a pious lady named “Najma”.

The most important title of Fatima bint Musa, peace be upon them, is “al-Masoomah”, which is taken from a tradition attributed to Imam Reza, peace be upon him, who said: “Man zaar al-ma’soomah bi Qom kaman zarani”, whoever visits al-Masoomah in Qom, it is as if they have visited me.

After her father, Sayyida al-Masoomah, peace be upon her, was placed under the guardianship and tutelage of her brother Imam Reza (peace be upon him) in 179 A.H. Until the year 200 AH, that is, for 21 years, she was blessed with the company of her honorable brother, and attained high positions as well as scientific, spiritual and moral perfection.

Regarding the sublime status of this noble lady within the Ahl al-Bayt, peace be upon them, the one hadith from Imam al-Sadiq, peace be upon him, would suffice, where he says: Be aware that the Heaven has eight doors, three of which are towards Qom. A lady from my progeny will pass away there with the name Fatima bint Musa. All our Shiites will enter the Heaven through her intercession.

In the year 201 AH, Sayyida al-Masoomah, peace be upon her, moved from Madinah to Khorasan with the intention of meeting her brother, but when she reached the town Savih, she fell ill.

Aware of the presence of Shiites in Qom, she told her dedicated servant: Take me to Qom.

There are various narrations regarding how she was martyred, but what is certain is that the enemies of the Ahl al-Bayt poisoned her food, which caused a severe illness leading to her demise soon after in Qom.

According to some narrations, Sayyida Fatimah al-Masoomah (peace be upon her) was martyred on the 10th day of Rabi’ul-Thani in the year 201 AH.
