Shirazi Foundation sounds alarm over rising poverty, calls on world to benefit from Imam Ali’s thoughts
The World Shirazi Foundation has issued a warning over the alarming rise in poverty rates, especially in developing countries, with projections that they will rise over time, especially amid unfair global policies.
In its message on the International Day for the Eradication of Poverty, the Foundation said: “Recent international data has confirmed the serious rise in poverty rates, which has become a existential threat to entire communities.”
It explained that “these dangerous rates of poverty, especially in developing countries, are caused by opportunistic policies that involve encouraging wars and internal conflicts, as well as the deliberate disregard of the climate change issue, in addition to economic measures arising from greed, avarice and monopolization of wealth.”
It stressed that “all of these unfair and dangerous measures have contributed to widening the gap between the poor and middle classes and the bourgeois classes, without regard for the rest of the nations and peoples,” warning that “this will result in the decline of living standards of millions of people on the planet.”
The Foundation pointed out that “it is unfortunate that political systems and governments claiming to be committed to human rights and the equitable distribution of wealth themselves contribute through their economic policies to exacerbating the situation and causing the spread of poverty through their imperialist measures, without any deep thought.”
It explained that “the Islamic faith, the jurisprudence of the Ahlulbayt, peace be upon them, and the wisdom of the Supreme Religious Authority have always pointed to the danger of greed, avarice, and the pursuit of direct and indirect colonialism that aims to steal the wealth of the peoples, and have repeatedly warned of the repercussions of this shameful behavior.”
In confirmation of the importance of remembering the International Day for the Eradication of Poverty, the Foundation called on all activists and people concerned in the eradicationof poverty “benefit from Imam Ali’s thoughts in this regard and to benefit from the guidance, instructions and policies that the Shirazi school of thought has produced”.
