Bangladesh: Blaze consumed hundreds of shops in market in Dhaka

Several hundred shops at a market in Dhaka, capital of Bangladesh, were completely destroyed by a huge fire early Thursday, Aljazeera News Agency reported.

The blaze left no casualties as it swept through Mohammadpur market before stores opened, but took six hours to be contained by the military forces and firefighters to contain.

Fire service officials say the fire spread quickly due to the large amount of flammable items such as cooking oil and plastics, and was likely caused by an electric short circuit.
