Death toll from devastating floods in Libya surpassed 6,000

The death toll from devastating floods caused by Storm Daniel in Libya has risen to 6,000, while thousands remain missing, a government official said on Wednesday.

The International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent on Monday put the figure of missing people in the floods’ wake at 10,000.

Local reports confirm that a quarter of the coastal city of Darna in eastern Libya, which was hit the hardest by the natural disaster, has been destroyed.

Meanwhile, the World Health Organization has called the situation in Libya catastrophic, appealing for immediate international relief response.
