Thousands of Turkish pilgrims request Iraqi government to facilitate their entry

A number of Shia pilgrims from Turkey appealed to the Iraqi government to facilitate their entry into the country to participate in the Arba’een Pilgrimage of Imam Hussein, peace be upon him, in the holy city of Karbala.

According to media outlets, the Shia pilgrims requested the Iraqi government to intervene immediately and allow them to be allowed to cross the Turkish-Iraqi border because they were stuck at Ibrahim al-Khalil border crossing, as they were running out of food and water.

The media reports confirmed that the number of these pilgrims is about two thousands waiting for permission to enter; as there are children, women and sick people among them.

The Iraqi Ministry of Interior announced earlier that more than 2.5 million pilgrims arrived in Iraq from different countries to participate in the Arba’een Pilgrimage.
