Grand Ayatollah Shirazi: Whatever Ahlul-Bayt said bears same authority as Qur’an in our Sharia

The daily scholarly meeting of Grand Ayatollah Seyyed Sadegh Hosseini Shirazi was held on Tuesday, the fifth of Safar. In this session, like the previous meetings, the Supreme Religious Authority answered the questions of the attendees about various jurisprudence issues.

Grand Ayatollah Shirazi said in this meeting that “The enemies were always upset that Imam Hasan and Imam Hossein, peace be upon them, were called the Sons of the Messenger of God, and would grudgingly refer to them as the Sons of Ali ibn Abi Talib — a statement which of course has been repeatedly refuted and responded to by Ahlul-Bayt and their followers throughout history.”

His Holiness further said that just as there are three words for son, daughter and child in the Persian language, and the word child means both a son and a daughter, in the Arabic language there are three words for Ibn, Bint and Walad. Ibn means son and Bint means daughter, and Walad means both daughter and son, so in Arabic, Imam Hasan and Imam Hussain, peace be upon them, are apparently Ibn Abu Talib and not the son of the Messenger of God, but God Almighty has made an exception in this regard. So Imam Hasan, Imam Hussain, and the infallible Imams, peace be upon them all, are all sons of the Messenger of God.”

He further emphasized that Ibn Rasulullah is not only used for Imam Hassan and Imam Hussain, but also includes all the infallible Imams, so even Imam Hassan al-Askari, peace be upon him, is the son of the Holy Prophet even though he is generations away from the Holy Prophet.

Grand Ayatollah Shirazi cited the famous hadith of the Holy Prophet: “I leave two precious things among you, the Book of God and Etrat, my Ahl al-Bayt, as long as you cling to these two precious things, you will not go astray, these two will not be separated until they return to me on the Day of Judgment by the pool of Kausar,” and explained that “This statement of the Holy Prophet means that whatever is mentioned in brief, hinted at, or not mentioned in the Qur’an should be taken from the words of Etrat, which bear the same authority in Sharia.”
