Iraq demands Turkey to increase water release from Tigris, Euphrates
In a meeting with the Turkish Foreign Minister in Baghdad, the President of Iraq complained that the reduction in the water release of Tigris and Euphrates from the Turkish side has had a significant impact on the lives of Iraqis.
According to al-Forat report, the president of Iraq stressed the importance of reaching understandings between the two countries on achieving fair and adequate water rights, adding that meeting the essential needs of the Iraqi people is of utmost importance.
Abdul Latif Rashid noted that Iraq is facing a severe water shortage crisis due to the reduction of transboundary waters in the Tigris and Euphrates rivers and their branched tributaries, which has had a significantly negative impact on the general life of Iraqis.
