Amnesty International calls for universal jurisdiction against Taliban
In response to the report issued by the United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA) on the killing, arbitrary arrest and torture of officials and soldiers of the former Afghan government by the Taliban, Amnesty International has called for universal jurisdiction against responsible members of this group who are accused under international law for these crimes.
In this statement, Amnesty International has emphasized the need for an independent international accountability mechanism to handle this issue in Afghanistan.
This institution has also called on the International Criminal Court to prioritize the investigation of the current situation in Afghanistan from 2003 to present date.
