US Blacklists Two Chinese Firms Over Uighur Forced Labor Accusations: 24 Companies Sanctioned in Total

On August 1, 2023, the US blacklisted two Chinese firms, Camel Group, a battery manufacturer, and Chenguang Biotech Group, a spice and extract manufacturer, over accusations of forced labor practices targeting the Uighur minority.  The sanctions aim to promote accountability for ongoing genocide and crimes against humanity in China’s Xinjiang province. These actions are part of the US government’s efforts to eliminate the use of forced labor in the country’s supply chain and have led to a total of 24 companies being sanctioned under the “Uyghur Forced Labor Prevention Act” since its signing in December 2021.
