Iraq to host int'l conference next August to discuss water crisis
Iraq will host on August 2nd 2023 an international conference on water, in the presence of the country’s Prime Minister, the representative of the UN mission in Iraq and other international organizations.
This initiative as Iraq, a country with a population of 42 million, is going through challenging water crisis, and is now semi-arid.
The Iraqi government has repeatedly held its neighboring countries, Turkey and Iran, responsible for reducing water flow into Iraq, because of the construction of dams on Euphrates and Tigris.
The spokesman of the Ministry of Construction, Nabeel al-Safar, said in a press statement followed by Shia Waves that, “The Ministery is holding a conference on August 2nd, under the United Nations auspices and the participation of a number of international organizations.”
Al-Safar pointed out that, “The conference aims at highlighting the challenges the country faces in water management and to draw up a road map for this crisis.”
