Month of Muharram in India
The Indian newspaper (Deccan Chronicle) confirmed on Wednesday that the country’s state ministers held intensive meetings on arrangements and procedures for commemorating the Ashura of Imam Hussein (peace be upon him) in the coming month of Muharram.
The newspaper said in a report,seen by Shia Waves Agency, that “The Indian government took procedures earlier this year, as it held ministerial meetings to discuss organizing the religious processions to commemorate the martyrdom of Imam Hussein (peace be upon him)”.
“The meetings were attended by a number of prominent Shia clerics and leaders in the country, the latest of which was the meeting hosted by the city of Hyderabad, regarding the revival of the month of Muharram,” The report added.
“The government has stressed taking the necessary measures to commemorate the painful occasion and provide a safe atmosphere for mourners who will participate in the commemoration of Ashura,” it explained.
The newspaper stated that, “for more than 400 years, India has been celebrating the unified central mourning procession, recalling the oppression befell the Holy Prophet’s family in the battle of Karbala.
