New Islamic Museum in Madrid, Spain
A new Islamic Museum has opened its doors to the public in Madrid, Spain
Madrid, the Spanish capital, is set to unveil a new museum that celebrates its Islamic history, showcasing artifacts and archaeological evidence of its Muslim past.
The Galeria de Colecciones Reales museum will feature a section of Madrid’s original Umayyad fortified wall, endorsing the narrative that Emir Muhammad I of Córdoba founded the city in the ninth century.
The museum’s opening signifies a shift towards acknowledging and embracing Madrid’s Muslim origins, shedding light on a long-overlooked part of the city’s history.
The exhibit aims to educate visitors about Madrid’s Islamic outpost and its significance as a European capital with Islamic roots. The museum will officially open to the public on June 29, following its inauguration by Spain’s king and queen on June 25.
