British Prime Minister Andy Burnham has pledged to tackle rising Islamophobia and anti-Muslim hate speech while promoting social cohesion, during a meeting with Muslim community leaders at 10 Downing Street in London.

The meeting, attended by Communities Secretary Angela Rayner and representatives of Muslim organisations, addressed growing discrimination against Muslims, particularly on social media. Burnham stressed the importance of recognising the Muslim community’s contributions to British society and rejecting divisive political rhetoric.

Discussions also covered plans to appoint a special adviser on anti-Muslim hostility and establish a national memorial honouring Muslim soldiers who served Britain during the two World Wars.

Shabir Randeree, chairman of the British Muslim Trust, warned of increasing attacks against Muslims and Islamic institutions, reporting that a mosque in Britain experiences a hate-related incident approximately every five days. Meanwhile, Wajid Akhter, Secretary-General of the Muslim Council of Britain, welcomed the dialogue but called for concrete government action to combat discrimination and protect Muslim communities.
