UN Launches Emergency Aid Operation After Fresh Floods in Nepal
——————————–
The United Nations has launched an emergency response after flash floods struck Nepal’s central Gorkha district, sweeping away homes and bridges. Authorities report at least five people missing and 95 rescued, with hundreds affected. The flooding may have been triggered by a landslide blocking the Budhi Gandaki River.
The World Food Programme is sending three trucks carrying ready-to-eat food and relief supplies, while UN agencies are assessing damage to roads, crops and livestock. UNICEF is also preparing emergency supplies and supporting assessments to identify the urgent needs of displaced families, including safe shelter, clean water, healthcare and child protection.
The disaster comes weeks after catastrophic flooding in northern Nepal in late August, which reportedly killed at least 1,400 people, with more than 5,000 still missing.
