According to the Japan FactCheck Center (JFC), a post shared on the social media platform X claimed that “Tokyo is supporting the construction of Islamic mosques.” However, a review of official government information found that the claim does not accurately reflect the nature of the program.

The Tokyo government operates an initiative designed to improve tourism facilities and make them more accessible to overseas visitors. The program provides support for measures such as multilingual signs, communication services, and facilities that accommodate the cultural and religious needs of international travelers.

One of the supported measures involves the installation or improvement of prayer rooms in tourism-related facilities, including hotels and service centers. The JFC reported that this provision was misinterpreted online as government funding for mosque construction.

Tokyo authorities confirmed that there is no subsidy program dedicated to building mosques and that the tourism support initiative does not include the construction or expansion of religious facilities.

Officials also explained that the prayer rooms covered by the program are not mosques intended for a specific religious community.
