SRW Calls on Islamic, Arab Leaders to Build Trust and Avoid Regional Conflicts

The international organization Shia Rights Watch has called on political leaders to increase communication and diplomatic engagement in order to build confidence and prevent further escalation and armed conflicts in the region.

In a statement issued alongside the UN General Assembly meetings, the organization said it was deeply concerned about ongoing political and military tensions and warned of their potential impact on the security and stability of regional populations.

Shia Rights Watch urged governments to prioritize dialogue, diplomacy, and peaceful solutions, saying that people across the region seek security, development, prosperity, and cooperation rather than continued conflicts that drain resources and create instability.

The organization also warned that political disputes between states could affect communities and contribute to the spread of hate speech and sectarian incitement. It expressed particular concern over the targeting of Shia communities through rhetoric that associates them with political conflicts unrelated to their own positions.

The group emphasized that Shia citizens are an integral part of their societies and that their national loyalty and commitment to the security of their countries should not be questioned because of their religious or sectarian identity.

Shia Rights Watch further called on governments to strengthen equal citizenship, protect communities from discrimination and marginalization, and adopt foreign policies based on mutual trust, good-neighborly relations, respect for sovereignty, and non-interference in internal affairs.
