Grand Ayatollah Sayyid Sadiq al-Husseini al-Shirazi emphasized the need for governments to follow the principles of governance demonstrated by Holy Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him and his family) and Imam Ali (peace be upon him), highlighting justice, mercy, respect for human dignity and protection of people’s rights.

In his remarks, the Supreme Marja said that studying the periods of governance of the Holy Prophet and Imam Ali (peace be upon them) reveals an approach based on compassion and fair treatment, including toward those who held different political or intellectual views.

He stated that historical accounts do not indicate that opponents fled the territories governed by the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him and his family) or Imam Ali (peace be upon him) due to fear, threats or severe restrictions. Rather, he noted that their governments were characterized by justice and protection of people’s dignity.

His Eminence called on rulers, particularly in Muslim countries, to adopt these principles in managing public affairs, stressing that justice, mercy toward citizens and respect for legitimate rights are among the key foundations of Islamic governance exemplified by the Holy Prophet and Imam Ali (peace be upon them).
