A Muslim family visiting Naneghat Reverse Waterfalls in Maharashtra reportedly experienced discomfort after a group of Hindutva supporters recited nationalist poetry at the popular tourist location.

The family, including children, had visited the scenic site, known for its natural beauty and historical importance as an ancient trade route. According to reports, the group began reciting verses from the Hindi poem Haldighati, which describes the 16th-century battle between Maharana Pratap of Mewar and Mughal forces.

The recitation included lines referring to Maharana Pratap’s battle against the Mughals, and reports stated that the family appeared uneasy during the performance. The incident has sparked discussion over the use of historical and political expressions in public spaces and their impact on visitors from different communities.

The poem Haldighati was written by Hindi poet Shyam Narayan Pandey in the 1940s and portrays the bravery of Maharana Pratap and his horse Chetak. The Battle of Haldighati took place on June 18, 1576, in the Aravalli region, where Maharana Pratap fought the forces of Raja Man Singh I of Amber, who was allied with Mughal Emperor Akbar.
