British Embassy Issues Guidance to Citizens Traveling to Iraq for Arbaeen Pilgrimage

The British Embassy in Baghdad has issued a set of safety and health guidelines for UK citizens traveling to Iraq to participate in the Arbaeen pilgrimage of Imam Hussein (peace be upon him), emphasizing the importance of following official instructions and taking precautions amid high temperatures in the country.

British Consul Martin O’Neill, in a video message, advised travelers to review Iraq’s travel guidance before arrival and to maintain regular fluid intake due to the hot weather, noting that pilgrims should drink water frequently even if they do not feel thirsty.

The consul encouraged visitors to make use of the services provided by Hussaini processions along pilgrimage routes, including rest areas and hospitality facilities, while following instructions from security personnel and volunteers to help ensure the smooth movement and safety of pilgrims.

He also recommended carrying minimal luggage, placing identification details on bags including a UK phone number with the international dialing code, keeping written copies of important contact numbers, and ensuring mobile phones remain charged throughout the journey.

Concluding his message, O’Neill urged British pilgrims to support and look after one another during their trip and to take the opportunity to learn about the values and principles represented by Imam Hussein (peace be upon him), wishing them a safe and successful pilgrimage.
