Canadian Muslim Council Warns of Intimidation Campaigns Against Muslim Farmers in Ontario
——————————————
The National Council of Canadian Muslims has warned of continued intimidation and targeting of Muslim farmers in the Bowmanville and Clarington areas of Ontario, despite authorities clearing them of all allegations related to operating illegal slaughterhouses.
The council said the issue began after rumors spread on social media claiming that Muslim-owned farms were running illegal slaughterhouses. It said the accusations later escalated into death threats, direct harassment, and drone flights over farmers’ homes. A local Islamic school was also reportedly subjected to similar drone harassment.
The NCCM confirmed that official investigations found no legal violations, but said the intimidation campaigns have continued. It also pointed to an anti-Muslim rally that it said was organized to intimidate Muslim farmers in the area.
The council said it is in contact with relevant authorities to follow up on the case. It called on Canadian officials to condemn what it described as a “campaign of Islamophobia and intimidation” targeting members of the Muslim community and to take decisive measures to ensure their safety and protect them from hate crimes.
