Taliban Deploy Reinforcements to Badakhshan’s Darwaz District Amid Heightened Border Security Concerns

The Taliban have reportedly intensified their military deployments in northeastern Afghanistan, raising concerns over increased security activity along the country’s border regions.

According to reports, a large convoy of dozens of military vehicles equipped with heavy weapons, including DShK heavy machine guns, traveled from Yaftal-e Payin toward the border district of Darwaz in Badakhshan Province.

The deployment follows an unpublicized visit by Mullah Mohammad Yaqoob, the Taliban’s acting defense minister, to the districts of Wakhan and Ishkashim, according to the Afghan newspaper Hasht-e Subh (8AM).

Local residents and observers believe the military buildup is linked to recent border tensions and an assessment of the Taliban’s military readiness in the frontier region. They say the deployment reflects growing concern among Taliban authorities over the security situation in Badakhshan, although the Taliban have not publicly explained the purpose of the operation.
