Police Continue Investigation Into Nazi Flag Incident Near San Diego Islamic Center
—————————————
Police in San Diego are continuing to investigate the motives of a driver who was stopped near the Islamic Center of San Diego after a suspicious vehicle was seen repeatedly passing the mosque.
According to the provided report, a security guard at the Islamic Center noticed the vehicle circling the area multiple times on Thursday and alerted authorities. Police later located the car, stopped it and detained the driver.
Officers said they found a Nazi flag and a suspicious canister inside the vehicle. Authorities said the investigation remains ongoing, but confirmed there was no active threat to the Islamic Center.
Imam Taha Hassane said the incident caused serious concern among members of the mosque and the surrounding Clairemont neighborhood. He said the quick action of the security guard and the immediate law enforcement response helped prevent further alarm.
The incident came roughly one month after a deadly mass shooting at the same Islamic center, where three people, including a security guard, were killed. The attack left the Muslim community in San Diego grieving and prompted heightened security concerns around the mosque.
