United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres has emphasized the importance of supporting and investing in UN peacekeeping operations, describing them as essential for protecting the world’s most vulnerable communities.

According to Afghanistan’s Hasht-e Subh newspaper, Guterres said UN peacekeepers operate in some of the most dangerous areas of the world, and that their mission has become more important than ever.

He stressed that investing in peacekeeping means upholding the UN Charter and protecting civilians in crisis-hit regions.

The UN secretary-general also said that more than 50,000 peacekeepers are deployed in different countries to protect civilian populations.

According to Guterres, these forces play an important role in reducing tensions and facilitating humanitarian aid delivery.

His remarks come as regional and international tensions continue in several parts of the world.
