Racial Abuse at Liverpool Mosque Raises Fresh Concerns Over Rising Islamophobia in Europe
——————————————-
An incident involving racial abuse and threats against worshippers at a mosque in Liverpool has renewed concerns about the rise of Islamophobia and the safety of Muslim places of worship across the United Kingdom and Europe.
The episode comes amid repeated warnings from human rights organizations about increasing hate speech and hostility toward religious minorities, particularly Muslims.
According to Merseyside Police, a 58-year-old man entered the reception area of the Abdullah Quilliam Mosque and shouted racist and threatening remarks at worshippers. He was arrested hours later. Police also announced increased patrols around the mosque following the incident.
Media reports indicated that the suspect threatened those inside the mosque with death and used abusive language while standing at the open entrance.
The incident has sparked widespread reactions from community activists and anti-hate organizations. In recent years, similar Islamophobic acts have been recorded across several European countries, including France, Germany, Sweden, and Netherlands. These have included attacks on mosques, arson targeting Islamic centers, verbal abuse of Muslim women wearing headscarves, and threats against worshippers.
Comparable incidents have also been reported in Canada, United States, and Australia, where Muslim communities have faced discrimination and Islamophobic behavior.
