Lebanon urges UN action amid rising violence in south, concerns over journalists and peacekeepers

Lebanon has called on the United Nations to take stronger action in response to escalating violence in southern Lebanon, where ongoing cross-border hostilities have affected civilians, journalists, and United Nations peacekeepers.

Lebanese representatives at the UN have urged an immediate cessation of attacks and emphasized the need for full adherence to international humanitarian law, according to official statements reported by international media. They warned that continued escalation along the Lebanon–Israel border risks further destabilizing an already volatile region.

The Lebanese appeal comes amid reports of increasing danger for media workers operating near conflict zones. However, claims circulating in some reports that 28 journalists have been killed in Lebanon have not been confirmed by major international news agencies or press freedom monitoring groups.

Separately, United Nations sources confirm that personnel serving with the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) have been affected by the ongoing violence in southern Lebanon. While some reports have suggested multiple fatalities among peacekeepers, including claims of six deaths, this figure has not been independently verified in official UN updates.

The situation in southern Lebanon has worsened amid continued exchanges of fire across the border, linked to broader regional tensions. The United Nations has repeatedly called for de-escalation and the protection of civilians, humanitarian workers, journalists, and peacekeeping forces.
