Vatican Defends Pope Leo XIV’s Moral Authority Amid Criticism
———————————-
Senior Vatican officials and close associates of the Holy See have issued a firm defense of Pope Leo XIV’s diplomatic and ethical stance following recent public criticisms from Donald Trump. The exchange highlights a widening divide between the “logic of power” driving current political discourse and the Vatican’s humanitarian-focused mission.

According to a report by Euronews, a high-ranking Vatican official characterized Trump’s remarks as a direct challenge to a “moral voice” that exists outside the realm of partisan politics. The official emphasized that the Holy See serves as an ethical compass in a period of intense global conflict, prioritising human dignity over national or political expediency.

The defense was further amplified by Father Antonio Spadaro, a prominent Jesuit and close associate of the Pope, who addressed the situation on the social media platform X. Spadaro asserted that the Pope speaks a language that “transcends the logic of power and political interests,” stressing that the Holy See remains autonomous and will not yield to external pressures to align its message with specific geopolitical agendas.

This friction comes as Pope Leo XIV has increasingly utilized his global platform to advocate for a reduction in military violence and a massive scale-up of relief efforts.
